Our group formed in 2022 because of a shared dissatisfaction with the role of the arts institution in society. Their often hierarchical structures became more and more places to fulfil economic needs.
We organised into RE/PROGRAMMING, whose only set goal is to foster diversity and to make institutions re-programmable = SYMBIOTIC
We asked ourselves: How can we develop a new form of arts school that is really existing to serve students to RE-PROGRAMME the institution in itself, instead of a school that attempts to RE-PROGRAMME students?
In other words, we wanted to develop‘ THE INSTITUTION’ as structures where the renewal of society can happen.
We work following constant reprogramming self-reflective methods of unlearning how to learn.
Footnote: What do we mean by institutions? An Institution written with a Capital I is a powerhouse
- Education is a basic human right and a condition (humans are inherently learning beings). Education is about personal development and enriching the lives of the individual, their community and their universe. It's about giving life meaning.
- We reject societies based on economic measurements and the economic value of education. We place the well-being of humans and all other forms of existence above financial growth.
- Higher arts institutions are organisations where the renewal of society can happen. Institutional mechanisms of the past (2022) are nowadays irrelevant.
- We were dissatisfied with the role of the arts institution in society. Their often hierarchical structures had become more and more places to fulfil economic needs.
- Participants are encouraged to use, question and create tools, methods and … to learn how to continually reprogram society.
- We organise ourselves as special educational zones, transforming the concept of special economic zones of the past, where laws can be suspended in order to transcend the current societal structures and allow for re-re-reprogramming.
- The Special educational zones are continually reprogramming itself, based on thoughts and ideas created within and without.
- Therefore the special educational zones are not geographically fixed
- In the special educational zone:
- there has to be diversity, diversity of people but also diversity of thoughts;
- we do not avoid conflict, conflict naturally arises in any placel where diversity of thought happens. This conflict of ideas allows for even more and new thoughts to arise;
- we provide the space and resources for failure;
- we provide the tools for students to deal with conflict;
- we provide the facilities for students to express their thoughts in whatever form they find best;
- there is fluidity between who does the sharing of knowledge and experiences and who does the learning;
- Everyone within the special educational zone shares the responsibility for upholding these basic ideas.
All of the above can be reprogrammed at any time.
